Fallback prevention group

In order to prevent relapse when freeing themselves from addiction, people need support and motivation. In the relapse prevention group, we will work on addressing and planning the stages of recovery from addiction based on a transtheoretical model.

  • We will explain what steps should be taken to achieve stability, why these steps are necessary and what are the best practices known so far for "moving forward". Together we will analyse our past problems and failures.
  • We will work on risk identification and relapse prevention methodologies - discussing what circumstances (i.e. internal and external risks) have prevented change in addictive behaviour in the past, and creating plans to better cope with these circumstances in the future.
  • We will talk about the importance of willpower and how to develop it, both in prison and in freedom - any change requires effort and effort requires willpower.
  • We talk about what willpower is, where it goes and how to train it.
  • We'll look at self-analysis through the Good Lives Model - The Good Lives Model theory suggests that people strive to create good values and experiences in their lives, but sometimes in practice fail to do so or try to achieve good goals through inappropriate means (e.g. seeking peace of mind through addictive substances).
  • We will also discuss together the issues of setting and sticking to avoidance and achievement goals - so that changing addictive behaviours does not just stop at avoiding the addictive substance, but also includes positive goals of abstaining from addictive substances. Lasting change requires that a person's life becomes better and more enjoyable, not just living in fear of relapse.
