Why come to Tartu University of Applied Sciences?

  • We look to tomorrow: 7 different thematic schools and more than 80 future-oriented specialisations
  • We know no borders: the vocational school with the largest number of foreign partners, with the opportunity to do an internship abroad in 19 European countries
  • Twice as many opportunities: with an intermediate vocational qualification, you get two diplomas in your pocket at the same time: a vocational certificate opens the door to the world of work, while an intermediate qualification gives you a pathway to university
  • We support our learners: a monthly study grant for good results

The school is focused on practical skills, so learning is linked to real-life tasks. VOCO works closely with businesses: partners include many large and small companies from A. Le Coq to Foxway.
VOCO is proud of the achievements of its learners. It has always achieved high placings in the Estonian Young Champion competitions, as well as in global and European vocational competitions. VOCO graduates are very welcome and valued in the labour market: about 77% find a job already during an apprenticeship or shortly after graduation and 20% of graduates continue their studies.

VOCO offers a wide range of support for students. In addition to a monthly study grant, students can receive a travel and school meals allowance and a special allowance. For those coming from further afield, there is a place in a boarding house.

Teaching organisation

At Tartu University of Applied Sciences VOCO, you can obtain a vocational secondary education after finishing basic school. This means that you will study both a specialisation of interest and general subjects. VOCO graduates have the possibility to continue their studies at a university of applied sciences or university. Around 20% of graduates continue their studies.

In some specialisations, you can study only specialised subjects and acquire vocational skills. In addition, the curricula of some specialisations are adapted to be accessible and suitable for learners with special educational needs.

The academic year is divided into four periods. At least half of the studies are based on practical work, both in schools and in enterprises. The school has two teaching buildings, Kopli 1 and Põllu 11, and a hairdressing salon at Struve 8a.

Career choice course

The Career Choices course is aimed at young people who have left education behind or have not made the right choices on their own. The programme is open to young people aged 17 or over who are either

  • have dropped out of basic education or vocational education and training
  • have finished primary school but have not continued their studies for several years
  • want to make better career choices by understanding their real interests, skills and abilities
  • want to acquire skills to enter the world of work.

the 5-month course offers the opportunity to get to know at least two professions through practical work and is based on the learner's interests and abilities. Alongside practical training, students will also complete general subjects, receive additional career guidance, communication and safety training as appropriate, and gain initial work experience in a company offering voluntary work.
