What's actually the best moisturiser for my skin?
Oils and waxes in natural cosmetics has been MaiWistik's direction since the beginning. Why? Because, of course, they are arguably the best moisturisers for your skin. Read on and see for yourself. Dry skin will no longer be a problem for you if you make friends with the world of oils.
Why is body oil important for skin care?
Oils have been around since antiquity, so it only makes sense that they are the best skincare advocates for our bodies. Eat in and slather on!
Regardless of the time of year, the top layer of our body is the lipid layer that protects the skin. Which means that we ourselves are already naturally composed of oils. Lipids, which are natural fats, prevent us from sun damage, for example, help retain moisture in our cells and restore skin that needs to heal from a scratch or wound. Our daily habits, however, only eliminate the fat we need. Frequent hand-washing, disinfecting, using alcohol-based products on the face, using soap, and even nice, long showers and baths in warm water. Hot water strips our bodies of natural oils and the longer we soak, the worse condition we put our skin in. Hence the 'pulling' sensation after washing, a feeling you're probably familiar with.
However, finishing your shower and bath with cold water is an effective way to improve circulation and overall skin condition.
Effect of temperature
Cold weather encourages circulation to work both on the face and body - reducing puffiness around the eyes and face. However, the skin needs to be supported to avoid cold damage. Moisturising at least twice a day is a good aid. Some people are more sensitive to the climate than others, especially the very young and the very old. As we age, our skin's natural fatty components diminish and the skin also becomes thinner in older people.
Speaking of the face, the skin under the eyes is 10 times thinner than the rest of the face. It should also be strongly supported and could be moisturised several times a day. We are used to moisturising our lips several times a day and that is the right thing to do. However, I would also point out under the eyes, where the skin is just as important and needs to be moisturised several times a day. Either with the same lip balm that goes on the lips. However, you should pay attention to the formulation, if there are strong essential oils in the lip balm that can irritate the eyes, then choose something else close to the eyes.
After washing or disinfecting your hands, you could use an oil or body butter without water. Be sure to focus attention on all parts of the body.
Water-based products are not good in the autumn-winter period, as the constant fluctuation between indoor and outdoor temperatures has the effect of causing the water to evaporate quickly, leaving you constantly creaming throughout the day.
Products based on oils or waxes, on the other hand, keep moisture inside the cell and create a protective layer around it. Your skin stays hydrated all day long.

How to choose the right oil?
Oils regulate oil production. Oils are promoted for their absorption properties, as many vegetable oils mimic the natural lipids found in our skin, which in turn helps to repair and regulate the skin's natural moisture barrier.
What's more, if you have acne or oily skin, try a facial oil. As bizarre as it may sound, even a number of dermatologists confirm that oil helps to reduce the skin's natural oil production when there is a risk of over-producing. That way, your body doesn't have to do it on its own when you're externally supported. Many oils also have anti-inflammatory properties to help soothe irritated skin.
While labels on products such as 'organic' and 'eco' refer to the growing of ingredients and are familiar to us, 'cold-pressed' or 'unrefined' refers to the processing of the oil. There are usually two main ways of extracting oil from raw nuts and seeds: by heat treatment or chemical solvents, resulting in refined oil. Both methods actually lower the quality of the oil by reducing the natural vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids. Think of the process as cooking, because even if you start with a super-healthy vegetable, the nutritional value of that vegetable is significantly reduced when it is heat-treated.
It's important to make sure that the oil you choose is a cold press oil. Often, refined oils are used in the beauty industry because they lose their natural strong smell and you can conveniently add whatever you need. Studies have confirmed that cold-pressed, or unrefined, oil contains more antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E than refined oil, which in turn provides more protection for the skin. Cold-pressed oils have a naturally longer shelf life and can often do without synthetic preservatives. All in all, cold-pressing offers a clean, strong and highly effective product.
Use of body and face oil
When it comes to oil, it is also important to know that different oils absorb at different rates because they have different molecular weights. For example, grapeseed, almond and hemp seed oils absorb quickly. Olive oil, jojoba oil and argan oil have a medium absorption rate. Avocado and castor oils are slow absorbing. All oils are excellent in their own way, but it's good to know when to grab what, depending on the situation. Slow-absorbing oils are good for evening baths, but fast- and medium-absorbing oils are more suited to a brisk morning workout. Likewise, slow-absorbing oils are good for longer winter outdoor sports. It is always a good idea to wipe off any excess oil that remains on the skin to avoid clogging pores or staining clothes.
To moisturise your feet, it's wonderful to oil your feet and put socks on at night. The same can be done for your hands if you can sleep with thin gloves on.
You'll find a wide range of oils in our online shop, and you can be sure that all of them are first press oils.
