Ageing: how to slow down the process?

Ageing is part of life. However, we can make conscious choices to slow down the process and keep our skin glowing well into old age. Here are 5 habits you can break to slow down the ageing process
Ageing and changing habits
Don't sleep on a rough pillow top
Our skin becomes thinner and more sensitive as we age, and this in turn affects our skincare routine. One such choice that can have a surprisingly big impact on your skin is the material of your pillowcase
Sleeping on a rough pillowcase encourages the formation of fine lines and contributes to deepening wrinkles, especially if you have dry skin. A silk or satin pillowcase is much gentler on delicate and sensitive skin.
Choose a good sleeping position
Sleep is an important part of skin care, for both men and women. If you tend to sleep on your stomach with one side of your face pressed into the pillow, it puts constant pressure on your delicate skin, which breaks down collagen and contributes to wrinkles. Especially if the fabric of your pillowcase is rough and rubs against your skin.
The most skin-friendly way to sleep is supine, but it's impossible to constantly monitor your position during sleep. The least you can do is sleep on a smooth satin or silk pillowcase that doesn't cause friction against your facial skin.
Be patient and consistent with products
For any skincare product or treatment cream to work, you need to use it correctly and consistently. Skin cells regenerate within 28 days. Abandoning a product because it doesn't give significant immediate results will quickly deprive you of its potential benefits. Look at skin care as the use of a diet plan. Results don't come overnight!
Improving your skin is a long and gradual process, so you need to wait even with the best skincare product. Be patient and give the product time to work its magic. In reality, some skincare products can actually make your skin worse before they get better. It's the same with diet, or there may be a healing crisis

Don't just focus on your face when it comes to skincare
Wrinkles and fine lines are the sign of ageing, and it's not just limited to the facial area, it can just as easily affect your whole body.
Unfortunately, many people focus their skincare efforts only on the face, ignoring the rest of the body. As a result, the face may look youthful, but the skin around the neck starts to sag or the skin on the hands becomes thin and wrinkled. This is why it's so important to take care of your whole body and ideally moisturise or oil from head to toe on a daily basis.
Don't rely solely on moisturisers to reduce wrinkles
Many people believe that moisturising the body with creams or oils is essential to fight and prevent wrinkles. Whether the problem is dry skin, itchy skin, rashes or something else. The drier the skin, the more the wrinkles will show. Body creams keep the skin elastic, but they don't affect the collagen and elastin mechanisms, which are mainly involved in wrinkles
It is certainly important to oil the skin, as the production of sebum gradually decreases over time, requiring external help to keep the skin moisturised and soft. However, this step alone will not ensure soft, wrinkle-free skin unless it is incorporated into a holistic skincare regime, along with a healthy lifestyle, diet and exercise.

BOONUS! Facial yoga exercises
It has been proven that facial yoga exercises and regular practice can help to fight ageing, improve the texture and quality of the skin and prevent it from sagging. The facial muscles are no different from the rest of the body. There are over 50 different muscles in the face, not all of which are used on a daily basis. Muscle inactivity makes the skin loose and leads to premature ageing. Practising facial yoga regularly can make the whole face stronger and more youthful.
