Hack Day

Safer and more resilient cities start with an idea

On 24-25 September 2026, Tallinn will host an international hackathon as part of Estonian Defence Week. During two intensive days, new solutions will be born to make cities safer, more resilient and more people-centred.

The Hackathon will take place at the Energia Avastuskeskus (Energy Discovery Centre) and will bring together participants from all over Europe in cooperation with the cities of Valencia, Helsinki, Lviv and Dnipro.

What to expect?

It's not just a space for ideas, but a place where they are developed into actionable solutions. For 48 hours you will develop your ideas with mentors and experts and:

  • get instant feedback from cities and industry experts
  • test the real-world potential of your solution
  • present your idea to an international jury

Prize fund and opportunities

The best teams will receive:

  • A cash prize pool
  • Opportunity to further develop the solution with cities
  • Access to test environments and pilot projects.
  • visibility in the international network

In addition to cash prizes, the focus is also on real opportunities for follow-up. Ideas don't stay in the drawer, but move on to testing and development!

For whom?

We welcome anyone interested in contributing to a safer and better performing urban space.

We especially welcome:

  • startups and early-stage teams
  • developers, designers, and creative thinkers
  • students and aspiring entrepreneurs
  • industry experts and practitioners

During the Hackathon, teams will work on specific challenges, which will be unveiled shortly.
