Worker in peat bog
AS Nurme Turvas is an Estonian-Dutch joint venture that provides stable employment for 40 people. Our annual peat production exceeds 450 000 cubic metres per year.
Peat extraction in the Lavassaare bog (deposit) started already at the beginning of the 20th century during the first Republic of Estonia. The Nurme Turvas production base, established in 1994, is located in the village of Nurme in Sauga municipality, Pärnumaa. Continuous production started in 1958. Our main activity today is the production and packaging of growing peat. Most of the production is exported mainly to Western European countries. However, sales to Asian countries - Japan, Korea, Israel - are also growing rapidly. We have also been supplying growth peat to the USA, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, and others. Our proximity to the cargo ports (Pärnu, Muuga and Paldiski) gives us a great logistical advantage. We sell about 55% of our production in packaged form.
We are mainly focused on supplying larger quantities, but we also welcome private customers from the surrounding area, for whom we offer the possibility to buy our packing plant on site.
