Heike Bauer

Professor of Modern Literature and Cultural History, Birbeck, University of London

Heike Bauer is Professor of Modern Literature and Cultural History at Birkbeck, University of London. She has published widely on queer history and culture including The Hirschfeld Archives: Violence, Death, and Modern Queer Culture (2017) and the co-edited ‘Visual Archives of Sex’ (Radical History Review 2022). Her current work focuses on human-animal relations with a major project exploring the role of pet portraits in queer modernism. A related piece on dogs and queer history, ‘In the Canine Archives of Sex: Radclyffe Hall, Una Troubridge and their Dogs’, is out with Gender & History (2022).
