Lauri Mälksoo is a leading scholar in international legal theory and history. His work focuses on public international law, including questions of statehood, sovereignty, and the development of international legal order.
He has published widely on the history and theory of international law, with particular attention to Eastern European perspectives and the interaction between law and geopolitics. In his research and teaching, he has also reflected on the development of legal education and the place of international law within it, particularly in the Estonian context.
