Opening Conference „Fantastic creatures: Making European cities safe, inclusive, resilient and sustainable“
Venue: Cruise Terminal
Address: Logi 4/2
January 20, 2023
How to help European cities to create well-designed, managed and connected green areas for healthy living environments? How to create synergies between different needs and functions for sustainable urban development?
Discussing challenges in shaping inclusive and just cities, where no one is left behind and where opportunities are provided for everyone to participate in the society. How to create fair-a shared European city? How to tackle the needs of different groups in the society and provide adequate support?
What kind of coalitions are needed for sustainability transitions in cities? How can we involve citizens, organisations, and businesses in the city governance? What are the tools of co-creation? How can people and organisations make their voices heard?
Dealing with the big questions.
How can cities cope with the increasing complexity of modern times and the conflicting interests of stakeholders? How do politicians and officials collaborate to build commitment and momentum around Agenda 2030 in all departments? Are we ready to come out of our silo towers and rethink local level governance?
What are the practical tools needed?
What are the main barriers and success factors to efficiently integrate the SDGs into local planning and budgeting processes and increase synergies between silos? What are the governance tools that allow to restructure city administration and decision making to be more horizontal and adaptable?
Recommendations for further work. How can we make European cities safe, inclusive, resilient and sustainable?
