Prof. Una Riekstina

Una Riekstiņa is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, University of Latvia. She holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from Karolinska Institute and, following her doctoral training, has built a successful academic career at the University of Latvia, where she is a tenured professor in Basic Medical Sciences. 

Her research focuses on the impact of the tumour microenvironment on therapy sensitivity, employing advanced co-culture systems, organoid models, and organ-on-chip technologies. 

Her work on the development of a pancreatic adenocarcinoma organ-on-chip model has been recognized among the Top 12 scientific achievements by the Latvian Academy of Sciences in 2024.
