Dr. Rotraut Merkle

Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research

Rotraut Merkle studied chemistry in Stuttgart and then became a staff scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart. Her research interests range from fundamental aspects of point defect formation and transport in ionic solids to detailed investigations of reaction kinetics at oxide surfaces, and extend to ceramic fuel/electrolysis cells, gas sensors and heterogeneous catalysis. In recent years her  special focus was on perovskites which contain electronic defects, oxygen vacancies as well as protons, combining experimental and quantum-chemical approaches.
