Prof. Marko Huttula

Prof. Marko Huttula

University of Oulu

Professor Marko Huttula holds a PhD in Physics (2004) from the University of Oulu and has since developed a distinguished career as Professor of Experimental Electron Spectroscopy. He heads the Nano and Molecular Systems Research Unit, and has previous roles such as Academy Research Fellow, Visiting Scientist in UPMC Paris and Professor at Henan University of Science and Technology.

His research unit translates fundamental physics understanding to research-based impact for green and digital transition. Huttula’s own research focus is on electron and ion spectroscopies, nanomaterials, and the physical mechanisms behind catalytic functionalities. He is also actively developing in-situ & operando methodologies and applications of synchrotron radiation.

Prof. Huttula has led numerous major national and international research projects including national JustH2Transit consortium, secured substantial competitive funding, and authored over 200 peerreviewed publications along with multiple patents and IPR. His achievements include leadership in developing PhD training in leading Horizon MSCA COFUND programs, supervision, steering scientific programs and infrastructures, e.g. Finlands participation to MAX IV synchrotron, and receiving recognition such as the Runar Bäckström Innovation Award.
