Dr. hab. Maksym Buryi, Ph.D.
Dr. hab. Mgr. Maksym Buryi, Ph.D. is a Senior Scientist and Head of the Plasma Chemical Technologies Department at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague and Associate Editor of the journals Optical Materials and Optical Materials: X. He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from the Czech Technical University in Prague and completed his habilitation in 2025 in the field of advanced scintillating ZnO nanostructures.
His research focuses on plasma chemical technologies, synthesis and engineering of advanced nanomaterials, EPR spectroscopy of defects in solids, and plasma-based processes for hydrogen production, waste valorization, and functional nanostructure fabrication. Dr. Buryi has authored more than 120 publications indexed in SCOPUS with an h-index of 23 and over 1600 citations. He has led and coordinated numerous national and international research projects, including grants from the Czech Science Foundation and the Czech Academy of Sciences, and contributes to large collaborative initiatives such as the MATCA II National Centre of Competence.
His work has been recognized by several distinctions, including the Otto Wichterle Prize of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Medal of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports for outstanding scientific and educational activities.
