Dr. Denis Gryaznov
Dr. Denis Gryaznov obtained his PhD in Materials Science in 2006 from the University of Stuttgart and the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research. Following the completion of his doctoral studies, he held a postdoctoral position for three years at the European Commission Institute for Transuranium Elements. He subsequently continued his postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research. Since 2013, he has been serving as a Leading Research Scientist at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia and in 2026 he was elected as Head of the Laboratory of Kinetics in Self-organizing Systems.
Denis Gryaznov’s main research interests focus on multi-scale defect modeling and energy-related materials. His current research projects involve density functional theory calculations applied to proton-conducting ceramic fuel cells, CO2 conversion on heterostructures, and radiation induced defects in wide-band-gap oxides. He is a co-author of 70 publications and, together with his colleagues, was recognized among the top ten national scientific achievements by the Latvian Academy of Sciences in 2020.
