Dr. Alevtina Smekhova

Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Germany

Dr. Alevtina Smekhova joined the synchrotron radiation research community as a postdoc at the ESRF large-scale X-ray facility in France, where she primarily worked with X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) technique to study various magnetic nanostructures.

Currently, she is a research fellow at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Germany, working with soft X-rays at the X-ray photoemission electron microscope (X-PEEM) and several XMCD beamlines. During the coronavirus pandemic, she fostered studies involving EXAFS technique to explore compositionally complex systems at the atomic scale.

Nowadays, she is focusing on in-depth structural and magnetic characterization of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) based on d-block elements, combining the capabilities of hard and soft X-rays in a single project.
